Partecipanza sonora

The sound installation offers an immersive experience of the Partecipanza Agraria di Cento by exploring the collective memory and transformations of the territory that hosts this ancient and unique agrarian institution. Interweaving environmental recordings made in the rural area around Cento and fragments of conversations with various local actors, the sounds investigate the history of the Partecipanza as a historical territorial body and its evolution over time.

The set of testimonies returns a complex picture, in which oral memories underline the tension between modernity and tradition and initiate a reflection on the forms of local governance in the face of a political, social and cultural scenario profoundly different from the one in which the Partecipanza was born. The installation also establishes a dialogue between agricultural practices and the sounds of the region, emphasising the relationship between human labour and wild environments, peasant rituality and mechanisation, and suggesting a critical reflection on the changing nature of agricultural work and the impact of modern technologies.

The installation, presented at the Civica Pinacoteca il Guercino, is part of the project Partecipanza Sonora, promoted by Basso Profilo APS in collaboration with Partecipanza agraria di Cento and City of Cento, and supported by Regione Emilia-Romagna.
