Attunement exercises

Luxembourg Pavilion, Venice Biennale 2025
Workshop and performative intervention

The two events initiate a reflection on listening to the non-human, starting with the direct experience of the participants. Introducing basic notions of acoustic ecology, they address the idea of attunement as the possibility of entering into resonance with the non-human, through an investigation of the sound sources of the Venice lagoon taking particularly into account the infrastructure systems and their relation to wilder ecosystems.

During the events, participants are invited to follow simple vocal exercises with the aim of entering in dialogue with problematic and potentially disturbing sound sources through the creation of experiental choirs. Exploring the possibilities of the choir in attuning with non-human sounds, the events lead to the recording of the participants’ performative improvisation.

The performative actions are part of the activations of “Sonic Investigations” - Luxembourg Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025. Sonic investigation is curated by Valentin Bansac, Mike Fritsch & Alice Loumeau, and exhibited works by Valentin Bansac, Ludwig Berger, Anthea Caddy, Mike Fritsch, Alice Loumeau, Peter Szendy.
