Quattro fischi verticali
Città delle 100 scale Festival, Potenza 2025Sound installation with Marta Magini

Quattro fischi verticali (Four Vertical Whistles) stems from an investigation of the environment surrounding the Vas Paper Mill (Setteville, Belluno), its morphology, and the acoustic characteristics found along the Fiùm stream, the historic driving force behind the paper mill.
The installation outlines a path along which four speakers, located in the woods surrounding the paper mill, emit four continuous sounds derived from the manipulation of the paper mill's turbine. The four whistles invite those passing through the space to seek them out: their continuous overlapping at different intensities and positions generates ever-changing combinations and harmonies that resonate with the environment.
By installing those same whistles in the stairwell of the former Enel building, Nicola Di Croce and Marta Magini focus on the upward path to suggest, in the ascent and descent, the possibility of continuously negotiating, through listening and movement, the harmony between those sounds. The reenactment of the installation is curated by Donato Faruolo for Città delle 100 scale Festival.
